Welcome to the second issue of Empowering News. We hope you enjoyed the debut of the first newsletter. We have a lot planned for you!

Let us start by telling you some great news… The Board of Directors has been hard at work within the last few months finishing the details of Deaf Empowerment’s Bylaws and is currently in the process of filing paper work with the federal government to become an approved Non-Profit (501(c)(3) exempt) agency. This will mean great things for Deaf Empowerment, such as the ability to obtain more grants and contributions.

The next bit of news, we have some exciting plans for a kick off event for Deaf Empowerment to occur this fall—a huge get together complete with a spaghetti dinner. There will be lots of other activities during our Kick Off, which is set for October 11. Stay tuned for more details about this exciting event.

Our literacy program continues to be built up. See pages 2 and 3 for more information on this program.

We’ve also been working on starting sign language classes which will begin this fall. If you are interested or know someone else who might be, fill out the interest form on page 7.
