Lending Library reading suggestion: Moses goes to school!
With the start of our new office we are able to open our library. We have been able to obtain about $2,600 worth of materials to add to our lending library. These range from books about Deafness, to children’s stories signed in ASL on video tapes. We have information on parents who are considering cochlear implants to adults who are losing their hearing. We have books on Deaf Culture, Deaf Pride, Interpreting for the Deaf and even movies with Deaf characters. We have started this library to provide the community with a place to borrow up-to-date materials related to hearing loss. So often it is difficult to find information on Deafness from most public libraries, and what you are able to find is often outdated. Deaf Empowerment’s library will provide an invaluable service to the community. Are you interested in borrowing materials from our library? It’s easy! Take a look at our website for a current list of materials we have available. From there, just contact Lori Fuller about stopping to pick up the items. There is no charge for borrowing materials. You will simply be asked for sign a form that says you will return the book, otherwise Deaf Empowerment can bill you for it if it is not returned. To help publicize this exciting new service, we will be featuring a book or video in every newsletter that is available from our lending library. This month we would like to highlight the book Moses goes to school. It’s a wonderful children’s book that incorporates pictures of characters using sign language. The story focuses on the typical day for Moses at a School for the Deaf. It’s enjoyable not only for children but for parents as well!
